Tennielle Hendy, Chief Hydrologist
"The areas of concern that are flooding at the moment, we have a flood alert up, which means that flooding is possible. So you should be prepared is for the watersheds of the Eastern slopes of the Maya Mountains."

"And I know that might sound like, okay, you know, where is that? So we're looking at all these rivers, North Stann Creek, South Stann Creek, Sittee River, Bladen, Swasey is a Deep River. All of these rivers coming off the Eastern slopes of the Maya Mountains."

"We have a flood warning in effect for Rio Hondo, New River. The tributaries to the Rio Hondo, the Boots River, Rio Bravo. In the central area where we are in Belmopan, we have for the Mopan, Macal and Belize rivers."

"And a little bit to the top of the, or the bottom of the central region, we have for the Sibun River at the Freetown Sibun village behind Hattieville. The San Ignacio and the Iguana Creek low-lying bridges are still impassible."

"And we have specifically for the Rio Hondo, severe flood warning. And this is because we have been monitoring the levels at our station at Blue Creek, or most people know it as a crossing for Union. That has exceeded hurricane Mitch levels."

"So those are mainly the areas that we're looking at. But more focusly, the Mopan and the Rio Hondo, we need to remain very vigilant."

We note also that there is a severe flood warning in effect for the Rio Hondo at Blue Creek North where flood levels are expected to exceed Hurricane Mitch levels.
