Tue, October 22, 2024
A 23-year-old woman managed to escape unharmed after a harrowing encounter with a 39-year-old man. It happened around 7:30 on Monday night while the woman was jogging in the Belama Phase 4 area. She noticed a dark blue GMC Envoy following her and shortly after, the driver, later identified as Jose Garcia, asked if she needed help.

She told him to leave her alone, but he kept asking if she needed a ride. She continued jogging but when she reached the corner of Peten Street, Garcia allegedly drove ahead onto a bridge and blocked her path with his vehicle. She pulled out her phone and began recording him. Garcia demanded that she delete the footage, but the woman ran back towards a store. Garcia pursued her and allegedly tried to hit her with the vehicle. The woman jumped into a culvert to escape him and Garcia's vehicle crashed into the culvert just 3 feet away.

A neighbor, alerted by the loud crash, helped Burgos out of the culvert. Police arrived on the scene and arrested Garcia. He was later charged with aggravated assault and was arraigned on that charge today in court.

He told the Magistrate that he was in that area to pick up some money for his boss and that he didnt't recall seeing the woman in that area. He admitted that he had been drinking but he denied all other allegations.

He was denied bail and remanded to prison.
