Boots Says Shyne Sleeps With The Leader's Chair Under His Bed
Wed, October 23, 2024
And today, there was even a skirmish for the parking area outside the headquarters. That's because Boots Martinez scheduled a press conference there to present - as he called it - "the interview that will take Shyne Barrow down".

Today, the former four time area rep came out guns blazing against Barrow.

Like any "Boots" press conferences, this one was not short of wild allegations and hilarious turns of phrase.

Courtney Menzies has a high and lowlights from the 40 minute conference:

Anthony "Boots" Martinez, who has been a member of the UDP since 1980, has sided with the Alliance for Democracy - and made his presence known as he danced on stage at the convention.

But while he might have been willing to wait and see what happens, he was triggered by Barrow's accusations against him last night.

Shyne Barrow, UDP Leader
"But I am doing the UDP and the country a favor by parting ways with some of these people. Boots Martinez, accused of rampant corruption. The gentleman, Mr. Castro."

Martinez didn't take kindly to those comments:

Anthony "Boots" Martinez, Former UDP Area Rep., Port Loyola
"I was living at 13 Curassow Street, right behind him, and when he's talking about waste bucket, that's a lie. They had sewage, Ms Esme, so he doesn't know about waste bucket. I used to back that little boy so it's somebody that I know at some point in his life, from his birth. I used to hold him, we used to call him Bubbles, he have some fat jaw and curly hair."

"He went about his business, he came back. I don't know if he tried to remember me or not but one thing I will say, that he doesn't know anything about me. So when you're trying to malign me in terms of what you believe or what you think of me, let me say this. Mr Barrow, the former… I won't even say Mr Barrow. Jamal. They are some chancy and bully individuals."

And aside from Barrow's accusations against multiple persons in the party, Martinez is concerned about the arbitrary removal of members without due process.

Anthony "Boots" Martinez, Former UDP Area Rep., Port Loyola
"We can't just allow things to happen. How will you, there is a code of conduct for everybody, including him. How will you get on television and calling this one corrupt and this next one woman beater and so."

"And then you have your own difficulty. Remember you stamped your wife in her back and that is recorded at police station. So who are you, sir, to come to this nation like you're saving this nation by getting rid of whatsoever the case might be. You see the capable people who were out there? They aren't people who were doctorate in terms of birds and bees. They are people who had legitimate degrees. They are people who have contributed to the development of this party."

"You will have NPC meetings by WhatsApp, there is process for everything, I believe in due process, and then he talks about this and that and "wahra" and "tahra." When we were here fighting… he was a convicted convict serving his time in jail."

"So I'm sorry, when they're talking about you want to get rid of people to help people. Sorry, you can be bringing your criminal behavior back to this country."

But even though Martinez believes Barrow should step down, can the Unity Convention even be considered legitimate? He says that, according to the constitution it is once the delegates have voted. But who verifies those delegates since the secretariat was not involved in this process?

Jules Vasquez:
"You cannot dispute the legitimate criticism that have been leveled at the Alliance for Democracy that the convention they set up did not meet the pre-requirements that you know are necessary for a convention. You know that you fight over the delegates list in the secretariat."

Anthony "Boots" Martinez, Former UDP Area Rep., Port Loyola
"No, you don't fight over the delegates list. You know the advantage that the delegates had? When you sign as a delegate, you get a certificate that has an expiration date so there is no fight over any delegates, the delegates are recorded here, everybody gets a certificate."

Jules Vasquez:
"Yes but there's a procedure to having a convention."

Anthony "Boots" Martinez, Former UDP Area Rep., Port Loyola
"I cleared that one?"

Jules Vasquez:
"I don't agree, I disagree vehemently but you're just like Shyne, any time you disagree, bwai dah noh soh. You all are the same thing. None of you could agree because two of you are knock heads."

Anthony "Boots" Martinez, Former UDP Area Rep., Port Loyola
"But it's not knock head."

Jules Vasquez:
"It's knock head. If you're out here and can't get in there, your head must be knocked."

Anthony "Boots" Martinez, Former UDP Area Rep., Port Loyola
"If I'm out here and can't get in there, this is my choice to have it out here."

Jules Vasquez:
"You can't get up there."

Anthony "Boots" Martinez, Former UDP Area Rep., Port Loyola
"But it doesn't really matter. Two wrong doesn't make a right."

Jules Vasquez:
"At least you admit you're wrong."

Anthony "Boots" Martinez, Former UDP Area Rep., Port Loyola
"I know he won't go easy, he will hold on to that chair, like I said, I was the first person who came and said that he sleeps with the chair under his bed and he sleeps cross foot, taking care of that chair."

And in his determined pursuit to be the domino that causes the downfall of Barrow, he alluded to an untoward request allegedly made to him when he was minister by Shyne Barrow".:

Jules Vasquez:
"Can you give us specifics?"

Anthony "Boots" Martinez, Former UDP Area Rep., Port Loyola
"I won't give you any specifics."

Jules Vasquez:
"You won't give any specifics? Then I won't believe you."

Anthony "Boots" Martinez, Former UDP Area Rep., Port Loyola
"Then you could noh believe."

And while Martinez convened the press conference to set the record straight, he did little to ignite the flames that would ultimately torch Barrow.

We reached out to Barrow for a comment about the allegations, but he would only say they are defamatory.
