The Kettle Bells Are Calling For Christmas Spirit
Fri, November 8, 2024
Christmas is a time for giving, especially to those in need, and at the Salvation Army they've gotten a head start this year on collecting funds with the launch of their annual Kettle drive.

Jomarie Lanza tells us where you can make your contribution.

There is nothing that says Christmas more than the sounds of the Salvation Army bells ringing. And this morning here at Battlefield Park they launched their annual Kettle Drive:

Marceddy Momplaisir, District Officer, Salvation Army
"As you can see this is the Salvation Army red Christmas Kettle today we have our opening. It's always a pleasure to have an official ceremony for our Christmas kettle drive. As you are all aware, the Salvation Army's red Christmas Kettle is an event that we have every year across the world. It is one of the largest fundraising that we have in the Salvation Army and our aim is to help those who are less fortunate, especially our children who are looking for the Salvation Army to give them toys a gift and to provide a hot meal for them so we are just here for them and we believe that with the help of the public and donors and sponsors we will be able to achieve our goal."

And this year, to help make the season for those - especially children - who could use some cheer in their Christmas, they have set a six figure target for donations.

Marceddy Momplaisir, District Officer, Salvation Army
"Our target is to raise 100K Belize Dollars. During this Christmas season, firstly on December 5th we are going to have our Christmas dinner for 1000 school children. And where we will get those children from different schools we send letters to the school to select people that are in need and send it to us to our head office and from there we take it."

So how can you do your part? And where will we be seeing these flashy red kettles? The Salvation Army's district officer gave us this year's locations

Marceddy Momplaisir, District Officer, Salvation Army
"We will be having Kettles by Brodies, Public's supermarket, the tourism village and I think some other places like Simon Quan, Hofius those are places that will have our kettle and also Golden Bay. But our one in the city and Belmopan as well we are going to have people go there so please support! Support the Salvation Army red kettle."
