Have you bought your ticket for GOB's "One and a Million" Anniversary game yet? It's a chance to win up to a million dollars if you have four lucky numbers.
Of course, the government also needs the one mil - which could have been used in other areas. But the decision to host this game was based on statistics and the belief that they could generate a profit in ticket sales.
Here's how the PM put it.

"I would not put that as most prudent action of our administration because there are so many other more important decisions that we have made but in this case, what we've done, is that, Boledo is a game of statistics, a game of chance. So looking at the statistics, the people at the Boledo/Lottery believe that we can create enough hype to be able to sell more than a million dollars and to make money out of it. Imagine paying $5 and you could potentially win a million dollars or half a million or a hundred thousand, depends on how many people win. For $5? People are going to go for it. I must confess in the United States sometimes I would buy the power ball, I pay my $2 and I never check back if I win, maybe I won and I don't know. But here in Belize, Belizeans know about it so I'm sure a lot of people, probably you already bought your number, Paul? And Courtney, you already bought your number?"
