Tonight, a flood warning remains in effect for the Northern, Central, and Southern region rivers and their tributaries, namely the Rio Hondo, Belize River, Sibun River, Mopan River, Sittee River, Bladen and Swasey Branches of the Monkey River, and areas off the Eastern Slopes of the Maya Mountains.
A Flash flood warning is in effect for downstream communities in the Cayo District, while along the Belize River - Communities along and downstream can expect flooding conditions. And as we showed you last night, the causeway at Crooked Tree is impassable.
In Bullet Tree which got hit hard by flooding last weekend - the waters have receded but the water pump for the village was a casualty of the rains. And tonight villagers have no water, and their community is stressed out from the flooding. One villager who is a business owner spoke to us off camera:
Voice of: Bullet Tree Resident
"The people need help in this area at this moment. NEMO has been in this area only twice, twice. There has not been an assessment in reference to any damages that has occurred to anyone's home at this time."
"Nothing. Red Cross has not been in."
"Water in order to shower or in order to wash clothes or even for cooking that people use this water for. It's horrible. And the reason I actually say that is because me myself had to go for water on the other side of the village. That's by the clinic. After speaking with the chairman of this village, I got to found out that there was an additional vat of same size in the new area. So what happened to us in this side? There isn't any vat on this side."
"The people on this side have to struggle in order for them to be able to find their way on the other side by the clinic in order for them to get their own water. Senior citizens, for example, you have a 68 year old, you have a 78 year old at this very point that doesn't have any water at this point. In reference to the community center, it's another ordeal. This community center four years ago was not in this state. Let's look at the resource center that is actually behind us."
"That place was open for a reason, a specific reason. What has the chairman done in reference to it? Nothing. What has the minister of Cayo North done to it? Nothing. It was only a propaganda of opening. Oh, this is what I'm doing for the people of Bullet Tree. When in reality, it's speaking for itself. But all I'm trying to get over as a concerned citizen, the chairman of this village and the minister of Cayo North has to do better for their people. Has to."
