Shyne Barrow's faction of the UDP approved David Almendarez's candidacy for Belize Rural Central.
And then yesterday, a flyer, from Tracy Panton's chief strategist John Saldivar declared that Lee Mark Chang would be running in Mesopotamia
Now, for Panton, Beverly Williams is the BRC standard bearer, and for Barrow, his name will be on the ballot for Mesopotamia.
But when we asked Panton today what she thought of Almendarez's candidacy, she essentially asked, what candidacy?
Tracy Panton, Albert Area Rep.
"I am not aware that there are any vacancies in Belize Rural Central. The United Democratic Party has a standard bearer in the way of our second deputy leader, Ms Beverly Williams, appointed and endorsed in conformity with the constitution of the party and consistent with the party rules. There will not be any unilateral or arbitrary decisions taken for who will serve in those capacities within the United Democratic Party."
Courtney Menzies:
"What about Lee Mark in Mesopotamia, can you confirm that he will be running in that constituency?"
Tracy Panton, Albert Area Rep.
"I can't make that confirmation, we haven't gone through the relevant steps that are required in that respect. There has to be a meeting with the executive committee of Mesop, there has to be consultation with the people of Mesop, the voters of Mesop before any such decision or position can be confirmed."
Courtney Menzies:
"If he expresses the interest to want to run in that division, would you support it?"
Tracy Panton, Albert Area Rep.
"I will rely on the collective wisdom of the people in Mesop. I certainly believe that Lee Mark would be a formidable candidate for the UDP whichever constituency he may choose to run in."
