The Belize National Teachers Union issued an angry release this evening, demanding the payment of increments and allowances.
The release says, quote, "It has been three months since the start of the school year and once again teachers have been shafted by the lack of movement from Management and the Ministry of Education on the payment of increments and allowances."
The union says it has "registered its concern, with both the Ministry and Managing Authorities" with no outcome.
The release says, quote, "Our members are outraged as the cost of living continues to escalate while the responsibilities and demands of the profession continue to mount and yet they are expected to function and respond to those demands as if all is well."
The union is now saying that it wants those payments - when they do come - to be retroactive - and TAX FREE.
The release closes, quote, "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! We will no longer continue to beg for what is rightfully owed to our teachers MoE and Managers, the ball is in your court but please note that our play has already been drawn up."end quote.
We will wait and see what that play is.
