For those who don't take the bus regularly - the well documented woes of commuters may seem abstract - like, "it can't be THAT bad, can it?" Except, It is. It really is. Here at Channel 7, we have quite a few commuters on our staff and the vicious vagaries of public transport have them all living with what we can only call commuters' PTSD.
Yesterday, our Jomarie Lanza had an eventful commute into the city. She's been taking buses from her home in Corozal to Belmopan and Belize City for 5 years - and has seen it all - so yesterday's trials were just one more nail in the cross. She left at 4am on the Express - along with other Corozaleno's bound for their office jobs in the city. They arrived four hours and three buses later after a series of mishaps - another day in the life of the average commuter.
And, while this is nothing new for regulars, we thought we'd put just one day's trials Into a little clip - to at least start the conversation about the urgent need for transport modernization and reform.
Jo says her instinct is that she and other commuters would readily pay as much as 30 dollars one way to travel in a reliable shuttle or van.
