A 24-year-old Belize City man was sentenced to eight weeks in prison after pleading guilty to charges of aggravated assault and damage to property. Shane Bradley appeared unrepresented before a Magistrate today charged with assaulting a teacher with a wooden chair and damaging a double window at Wesley College in Belize City.
The charges stemmed from an incident on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, when Bradley accompanied the mother of a student to collect a report card. According to the teacher, Cindy Rowland, Bradley became aggressive during a discussion about the student's academic issues. He reportedly kicked a chair and threw it toward Rowland, but it was blocked by others present. Bradley then allegedly broke a double window during the altercation.
Police reviewed surveillance footage from the school and later arrested Bradley on Saturday, December 21.
In court, Bradley initially disputed parts of the police's account, claiming he never assaulted the teacher. However, after the facts were reread, he admitted to the offenses. During mitigation, he pleaded for leniency, citing his role as the sole provider for his children.
Despite his plea, the Magistrate sentenced Bradley to six weeks in prison for the assault and an additional two weeks for the damage to property.
The Magistrate also highlighted Bradley's prior conviction for violent crimes and the fact that he is awaiting trial for three other violent offenses. He is now serving his sentence at the Belize Central Prison.
