And another accused person at court also cut an unconventional figure today.
He's Sigfrido Diaz Trigueros, a Salvadoran industrial engineer - who's lucky to spend the Christmas at home and not in jail after he allegedly pulled a gun on a bus conductor.
Here's what happened. Yesterday a Silva's Bus Company was coming down the canal side on its way to the bus terminal and its mirror got broken when two young men stuck up an umbrella and broke the bus's side view mirror.
The conductor, 28 year old Bryton Murillo went into the market looking for the culprits and encountered Diaz Trigueros who allegedly refused to take responsibility for the damages and became aggressive, instructing Murrillo to leave.
According to Murillo, Diaz Trigueros threatened him, stating he would "shoot him" before pulling a black pistol, believed to be a 9mm handgun, from his waistband and pointing it in the conductor's direction. Fearing for his life, Murillo retreated to the bus terminal and called police.
Police detained Diaz Trigueros and found him in possession of a licensed firearm. He was charged with Aggravated Assault. Now, this would usually lead to automatic remand but the accused got a break today.
Today, after an overnight in lockdown, Diaz Trigueros appeared unrepresented before the Chief Magistrate. But things took a turn when his accuser Bryton Morrio took the stand and said he did not want to proceed with the matter and requested no further court action against Trigueros.
He told the court he just wants Diaz Triguero to replace the damaged mirror and compensate him. According to Murillo he and Trigueros has already entered into an agreement to settle the matter out of court.
The Prosecutor offered no further evidence and that's when the Chief Magistrate dismissed the charge from against him and told him he was free to go.
