Francisco Alcoser Sr, known as Pancho, the founder of the Super Furia band out of Orange Walk, died yesterday. He was at home with his family when he passed. The 61 year old founded Super Furia 38 years ago - and thanks to his contagious energy - the band, comprising all family members, had a well earned reputation as a great party band with a strong streak for showmanship.
We spoke to his daughter and daughter in law about his legacy today at the family home in Orange Walk:
Roxana Anderson, Daughter
"Music was always in his bloodstream. I believe his grandparents used to play at the church choirs and et cetera. So that's how he got really inspired. And then his brother had a band, which he played in Lucio and the New Generation."
"And so he ever since he just said, you know what? This is what I want to do for the rest of my life. And from high school, I believe he was in the age of 12. He started doing music and you know, that's how he will always be remembered as a, he always say music is his life."
Veronica Alcoser, Daugher in Law
"When he was in high school, the principal then told him that he either choose education or he either choose music. And he was in second form. And he said, he clearly came to his mom and he told his mom that he is no longer going back to school. And his mom said, what are you sure? And he said, yes, I choose music. And his mom was very mad. And he said, and he do not regret it. He says that music through music, he has built what he has, his home, his children. He educate his daughter. He was also a songwriter. So most of the songs like, you know, he came together for the Donkey Wah Wata. He have September celebration songs, which Super Furia Band won Battle of the Bands and so forth, you know, September 21st songs. The Sweetheart Pass which came across COVID time, you know. He always got inspired. Okay, so this Sunday, right here in Orange Walk, #2, Santa Familia Street, we'll be hosting a celebration victory for my dad, because he has won a spot there in heaven. So he is a true champ. So it's gonna be starting this Sunday. We are inviting all the Belizean bands and musicians to come. To come, we're gonna have mega stage, because we gotta do it big, you know? Just the way he wants it."
The concert is on Sunday in front of the family home in Orange Walk Town and it is themed "Victory".
