Filly The "Conflict Cat" Heading To Milwaukee
Tue, January 21, 2025
Filly the jaguar was rescued by the Belize Zoo in 2019 and tomorrow, she will be making a trip to the Milwaukee County Zoo known as the "MCZ" in Wisconsin, USA. Filly will be the second jaguar to be transferred to the MCZ following Pat the Great Cat back in 2008. According to a press release, this transfer, quote, "continues the long-standing conservation partnership between The Belize Zoo and the Milwaukee County Zoo, which dates back to the 1980s." End quote.

Filly was initially identified as a "conflict cat" as a part of TBZ's Human Jaguar Conflict Program. She was found preying on livestock. After years of care and management, she was assessed as reproductively viable and will play an important role in the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Jaguar Species Survival Plan. This program is dedicated to maintaining the genetic diversity and sustainability of jaguars in zoos.

The MCZ has a specialized habitat for Filly and has been a steadfast supporter of jaguar conservation efforts in Belize.
