Mayor Says He'll Pave The Street When Rains Stop
Fri, February 7, 2025
Yesterday we showed you the deplorable conditions of the street located behind the KHMH morgue, which connects onto Lizarraga avenue. When we spoke to the mayor today he first declared that the street is named, Lattie Waight street, and is more than aware of it's desperate need for rehabilitation. According to the mayor they have conducted an assessment of the area but are waiting for the rains to subside before they can commence work.

Bernard Wagner, Mayor, Belize City
"We are aware of the issue there and we are looking at it. As per normal we have so many streets to do in the city and we are aware of it. But at the same time, we can't do streets while rain is occurring."

"And we are very cognizant of that particular street. Actually, I visited that street when we were undertaking St. Thomas Street. And we were able to plot the entire area that we want to do its entire Lottie Waight Street with and going directly into Meighan Avenue."

"So we do have it on our round of streets to do, but we have to exercise patience. We can't fix a street when it is raining, but it is in our work plan and it is on our priority list."

We should note that the street - which residents told us is named Lizarraga Avenue - has been in the same dilapidated state through many dry and rainy seasons.
