And, one of the arguments made by Enriquez's attorney is that his client had a legitimate expectation that the redistricting exercise would be held before the general election. And that is based on government's public pronouncements. For example, here's what the PM told the media in December of 2022:
John Briceno, Prime Minister of Belize:
"We have to do it before the next election. As it is right now this is an exercise that is handled by the Elections and Boundaries Commission.they will make that recommendation to the Elections and Boundaries Commission. Once that recommendation is made then that goes to the National Assembly for acceptance or not."
And, as the government argues the Election and Boundaries report has been tabled before the house, but has not gone much further than that for acceptance or rejection.
