Dwayne's Alleged Killer Got Off, ComPol Consoles Himself With DPP's Plan To Appeal
Fri, February 21, 2025
And in the Belize City courtroom, yesterday we reported that Dane Gillett, the man who was accused of killing 15 year old SJC student Dwayne Gabourel walked free after the judge upheld a no case submission. The matter is expected to be appealed but we asked the ComPol for his thoughts on the judge's ruling that the evidence was too tenuous to put to a jury.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"I am not the judge in that matter, I cannot speak to what the judge saw and what made the judge arrive at that conclusion but I am happy to hear that the DPP has said that she's going to appeal the matter."

"From the time you hear the DPP said she's going to appeal, it's because she in her wisdom as well do believe we have sufficient to have secured a conviction so we'll wait for the appeal and see how it goes from there."

The DPP's statement to 7news says: We strongly, though respectfully, disagree with every single finding of the trial judge. We will continue to try, as is our duty, to get justice for Dwayne".
