Tracy's Crowd Didn't Overwhelm But Was Spirited
Mon, February 24, 2025
Earlier in the news we showed you the PUP nomination day parade - which looked like a Carnival. Well, next to take the streets was Tracy Panton's UDP - which had the midday slot. Jules Vasquez was there:

Tracy Panton's UDP - and its 7 candidates brought out a few hundred - maybe 5 - today as they marched at noon to the civic. Now, that's the time slot usually reserved for independent candidates, but Panton's team was unapologetically red - the flag, the colors and the spirit - which made up for the turnout - which, while respectable, did not overwhelm - as the PUP had just hours earlier.

Tracy Panton, Leader - TPUDP
"We are very excited, we are grateful to be here, and we are energized, looking ready for Election Day. Our supporters came out, and they will come out in numbers on March 12th."

Jules Vasquez
"I counted that you had like 500 the whole crowd, and it's not enough to say that we are the dominant faction of the UDP."

Tracy Panton, Leader - TPUDP
"Ask me that question after two o'clock this afternoon. The people of this country know who are the members of this party who have given their blood, their sweat and their tears for the United Democratic Party, and they will come out on March 12th to support us."

Jules Vasquez
"Are you concerned that, you know, Shyne, it can be argued, Shyne Barrow's faction may have put up the more respectable slate because he has 30 of 31."

Tracy Panton, Leader - TPUDP
"You're joking. You meant that as a serious question?"

Jules Vasquez
"I do mean that."

Tracy Panton, Leader - TPUDP
"I think you're being facetious, Jules. We, I don't think I want to answer that."

Going forward to sustain even this effort, Pantone will need funds to keep her candidates afloat.

Jules Vasquez
"I know that you have people who, business persons who will always support the opposition, but right now they tell me they are splitting their money."

"They're giving Shyne some, and they are giving Tracy some. Does that affect the maximum fundraising ability of your party?"

Tracy Panton, Leader - TPUDP
"It is for the business people to make a determination who they want to support. It's their money, not mine. We have gotten solid commitments from the business community. We appreciate the contributions that we receive. We're fighting for democracy to keep democracy alive in this country."

Jules Vasquez
"Is it a concern for you that, you know, the electorate is increasingly, a large part of them of the electorate, has a clientelistic relationship with their representatives or their candidates and that UDP will not have the money to match them."

Patrick Faber, TP-UDP Collett
"I like how you put that, it's very crafty. Yes, that's a concern that people will gravitate towards the money, but I always tell people that money can't buy you love and the people of Collet and I are in a love relationship."

Tracy Panton, Leader - TPUDP
"All hands on deck, all boots on the ground, we continue to knock on doors and to make the case for the United Democratic Party, we are not fighting each other. You know Jules that we have not put up candidates in constituencies where we have modified and legitimate UDP standard bearers because we have no intention to undermine the UDP. And so we are working as best as we can to ensure that we have a path to 16 seats, whether they come from my faction or whether they are standard bearers who are currently supporting the former party leader."

The man they want to take down that so called former Party Leader is Lee Mark Chang

Lee Mark Chang, TP UDP - Mesop
"It is not for me to win, it is for him to lose, right? In almost every household that you go to, the first team that come out are the most that they complain about the current aera representatives."

"The disrespect. He don't know how to talk to people, he don't know how to treat people."

Jules Vaquez
"Are you concerned that it might just come down to who outspends who and that in a race like that, he will outspend you?"

Lee Mark Chang, TP UDP - Mesop
"It is what it is and I'll do what I need to do to win a division for our UDP."

Jules Vasquez
"You know that the UDP's chances of winning 16 is not very high. Is this election about ridding the UDP of Shyne Barrow?"

Patrick Faber, TP-UDP Collett
"That's your narrative. That is your narrative. We are in this election to win, to restore democracy in this country, to hold this current administration accountable. I don't care what they say. People are not feeling the growth in economy on the ground."
