So you heard the PM lament about how Elvia Vega Samos wasn't being supportive of her opponent, Thea Garcia Ramirez, even though they're both women. But he didn't keep that energy when he spoke about Kaya Cattouse's comments about Tracy Panton. Panton believes Cattouse was trying to body shame her in Independence by saying she can't keep up with Cattouse in the mirror. Briceno explained it away by saying that politics is just a contact sport.
John Briceno, Prime Minister
"Let me start off first of all to say that I believe Kaya can defend herself and Kaya can clarify whatever she said. But I can tell you here that our party has been a very strong supporter of women. We try to support them and as a government, we have been the government that has appointed the most women in history of any government and so we continue to support women but again, as what Michael Finnegan would always tell you, politics is a contact sport. And sometimes we kind of speak out of turn but I don't think whatever Kaya would have said that she said it maliciously, it was probably off the cuff, whatever it is but I think she can take care of that and answer that." |
