Untitled Document In July of 2020, at approximately 2:40 p.m., 5 men robbed Scotiabank on the Phillip Goldson Highway. They made off with 25 grand in cash - but they were nabbed by police as they tried to escape. Two of the men were shot by the cops in an exchange of gunfire - and all 5 were detained.

Well, today, after being found guilty last week - four of the men were sentenced in the Belize Magistrate's Court.

Anthony Barrow, who absconded while out on High Court bail, was sentenced to 21 years and 10 months in jail in absentia, while Leon Westby got a total of 9 years and Jason McKenzie got a total of 12 years. The Chief Magistrate has deferred sentencing of 22-year-old George Meighan who was only 17 at the time of the robbery.

They were all convicted of robbery, one count of aggravated assault upon PC Robert Sutherland and 3 firearm related offenses for 2 guns and several rounds of ammunition. Only Meighan and Barrow were found guilty of damage to property.

After the conclusion of the sentencing, the Chief Magistrate told the men," You have the right to appeal."
