And Dolores Balderamos Garcia played the role today as the area rep - no longer Minister of Human Development.
She says while it may not be her ministry anymore that won't keep her from assisting every so often and advising when needed. The portfolio is now under her niece by marriage, Thea Garcia.
We today asked Balderamos Garica how she is settling into her new role as the Senior Minister Of State In The Office Of The Prime Minister. She says she knows exactly where she wants to focus and impact.
Dolores Balderamos Garcia, Minister of State, Office of the Prime Minister
"I am able to fashion some of my own role because I have been full of firsts in my life and I believe I am the first senior minister of state that has been appointed in this country. Now I said to the prime minister that I am particularly interested in elder affairs. In other words promoting the rights and wellbeing and our services for elderly people. I know in Barbados there is a portfolio of elder affairs and while we may not have that here but even in an informal basis I will be able to help in that regard and I am still passionate about HIV and AIDS, I am still willing to help with national awards and other things that were suggested to me, but what I find groundbreaking is I am able to say to the prime minister, PM let's put a little emphasis here, PM let's put a little emphasis there. So I am very happy abounding it and I am, I have offered as I have said to the media I have offered help to Minister Zabaneh and to Minister Thea and of course the Special Envoy Mrs Briceno, whatever help they may need however I can fit in. I will be absolutely happy to do so." |
