And there was to be a showdown of some sort at the Belmopan Market Plaza because representatives from the Council's Trade License Team were to meet with the vendors at Market Plaza to be assessed the appropriate fees.
Well, that never happened and the mayor says that's because they were told they would not be welcomed.
Pablo Cawich, Mayor of Belmopan
"No, no. We received a written expression that our staff was not welcome and would have been evicted off the property. So due to that, we did not send our personnel out there. I think this is an opportune time to also state that while people have a perception when it comes to private property, once you are operating business on that property, that property is no longer private."
"So the parking lot that is on that market is public access. The market area where the vendors lay themselves out on the on the paths, that is also public area due to the sales."
The council says all the vendors should be regularized by mid April.
