In the world of Industrial Technical and Vocational Education Training facilities, there are ITVET's and then there is the Orange walk ITVET - which is widely acknowledged as the best in Belize.
They held their annual Expo and Trade Fair last week Friday where their trainees exhibited their projects and skills. Here's what was on display:
Josette Espadas, Administrator ITVET OW
"This is our grand expo and trade fair. We have been long awaiting for this day. So today the visitors will be able to the view the trades and the vocational groups so in the trades they will be viewing projects the guys have done in electrical, carpentry, AC, Plumbing, auto mechanic, auto Cad General construction so all the trades we have to offer they will see an array of projects and these guys worked very hard along with their instructors the pre vocational groups have projects in all of their subjects that they do. Again very hard work put in by our trainees."
"It is a high level of ingenuity with our trainees, you'll be able to see a solar powered rickshaw, a little Tuk Tuk, it's all solar powered and we also have our building's solar powered. We have a cold room that was set up by the AC and refrigerator trainees so it simulates how a central air unit works in AutoCad. You'll be able to see 3D Modules of our institution which the trainees did from scratch, blue prints. In Auto mechanics you'll be able to see the guys doing their hands on work in welding all of the master craft that they have done in welding and plumbing as well, hands on so it's an array of projects."
Joselle Solis, Electrical Instructor, OW ITVET
"So we have tools, we have appliances, and if you see that booth they are teaching about ground. The importance of ground, this booth by my side is about appliances and how to protect your appliances, how to fix appliances, the different components and the other booth is dealing with everything about installation. All the materials and all the components about materials, how to bend it, starting with the plans etc. They have a wide range and the basic ideas in level 1 they are fully prepared at some point but more as helpers to have an idea and then they reach to level 2. They start applying more and escalating their level so, the level today concentrates a lot on industry and if you see that other booth there, it's about motors. They are dealing with PLC the basics of PLC but it is very important, motors, connections, insulators a variety."
