New Section Of Benque Viejo Road Gets "Major Surgery"
Wed, April 9, 2025
Eyebrows were raised today when the newly constructed Benque Viejo road was undergoing what we can only call the pavement equivalent of "major surgery".

Critics said "it's falling apart before it's even finished."

Well, not quite. The CEO in the Ministry of Infrastructure Development told us that the section had to be replaced because of what is called a base course failure on that small section of the pavement. He says that excessive water had penetrated the base course layer late last year. Engineers were monitoring it to see if it would dry up but it extended into what is called the HMAC - referring to the concrete.

Moody says that since the contractor commenced paving again today the consultant agreed that the segment be cut out and repaired at the contractors expense.

Another segment of the road was damaged by a trailer.
