And the BTV aren't just defending the southern borders from the GAF, but also helping to defend Belize's environment. Earlier in the news we told you about the suspension placed on the dredging at Will Bauer Flats. BTV leader, Wil Maheia, also called for a stop order:

"We at the Belize Territorial Volunteers stand in solidarity with the fishermen of Placencia. We find it ridiculous that the government is allowing dredging inside the Barrier Reef and some of those flats. They need to realize that some of those flats bring over 100 million dollars into the Belizean economy every year and when you destroy the flats, you're destroying the food for the fishermen. Just want to call on the government to put a stop order to dredging immediately."
