Immigration Officer Caught On Camera, He Wasn't Charged But CEO Says She'll Investigate
Tue, June 4, 2024
Tonight an immigration officer's actions are under review after he was caught on camera taking a cell phone from a restaurant and bar in Corozal. It happened at Wood House Restaurant and bar where the officer is seen sneakily taking a cellphone from off the bar counter and quickly leaving with it.

His attorney told us it was not an act of theft and it is related to a deeper misunderstanding. We understand it was resolved without a police report being made.

But, the Ministry of Immigration is not satisfied. The CEO Tanya Santos told us today quote "the video does show a person who appears to be an immigration officer known to me, quickly grabbing a phone while no one is looking, and walking away with it…..We have checked with the police and there does not seem to be a police report filed on this matter but the ministry of immigration is taking steps to thoroughly investigate what has transpired and to see what measures can be taken administratively if indeed it is established that this officer stole the phone.

...there is zero tolerance for this type of behavior and once I am aware, it will be dealt with. We need to uphold the highest ethical and professional standards as public officers and not bring the public service into disrepute. Those who insist on doing so have no place here." End quote.
