He attends college in Dangriga but Jair Briceno was raised on the city’s
south side. So when it comes to violence on the streets, the 19 year old knows
what he is talking about. But Briceno isn’t talking, he is singing reggae
music. This week he released his first song called “stop the war and crime.”
He stopped by our studios yesterday and told us the recent spike in violent
crime motivated him to pick up a microphone.
Jair Briceno, Performer
“I feel how the society feels and I feel how the youths feel and the
song is a good song. It brings across messages and I really want the mad youths
to get the understanding and the message because we can be productive in this
society. We don’t have to do wrong. So that is basically why I wrote the
son. That is what motivated me to write the song.”
Keith Swift,
What type of music is it?
Jair Briceno,
“The song is a reggae song.”
Keith Swift,
What do you want people to get from the song?
Jair Briceno,
“I just want them to get the message that we have to low it down,
at least take down the crime rate a little bit in our society so we can have
peace and so we could try to be productive as black men and as well as ghetto
youths and black men. That is basically how I see it. I grew up in the ghetto
and thing, we listen to music all day and that is just the movement of us. So
it is me watching other artists and I already grew up without opportunities
and so it just motivates me to want to do it. I have the talent so I just do
it.”
Jair currently has no release date for a full CD but you can hear the
full song on radio stations.
