And while Ken Young is in jail, another young, Arthur Young is out of it. He
is one of two accused murderers are tonight back on the streets as free men
by order of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
In February of this year, notorious street figure Arthur Young was charged
for the 2002 murder of Jose Chavarria. Chavarria was shot on East Canal as he
rode his bicycle with a bag of videocassettes. Young was charged after he was
deported from the United States. Despite police investigators assurance that
they had solved the four-year-old murder, this morning the DPP's Office entered
a nolle prosequi in the Supreme Court and Arthur Young was let loose. No reason was given why the DPP withdrew charges.
Also free tonight is Ronlee Petillo. He was charged for the January murder
of Dennis "Tiki" Gladden. Gladden was murdered as he stood at the
corner of West and King Streets just yards from his home on Far West Street.
At the time of his arrest, Petillo's family told us their brother lives in Stann
Creek and was only visiting Belize City when the murder occurred.
