And while the Gang Suppression Unit was busy with Special Branch Corporal Gino Peck, whose story we've been closely following, they were also operating in Belmopan and San Ignacio this weekend. On Friday at around 11:30 a.m., the GSU, in joint operation with Belmopan's Special Branch Unit, executed a search at the residence of year-old Gliria Mejia, a Honduran Belizean at #86 Guyana Street, in the San Martin Area of the City of Belmopan. The search led to the discovery of 5 small pieces of crack cocaine to a combined weight of 0.3 grams. Officers found the drug in an altered PVC pipe underneath the kitchen sink. Both Mejia and Martinez were arrested and charged for the possession of a controlled drug.

On Sunday, GSU and San Ignacio Special Branch executed a search at the residence of Trevor Jones, a laborer of Poison Wood Street, in the Hillview Area of Santa Elena. The search led to officers discovering a .38 Smith and Wesson revolver loaded 5 rounds of ammunition, a black bag containing 51 grams of cannabis, and a sock containing 9 rounds of .38 ammunition. Present at the time were Trevor Jones, 19; Carmari Singh, 20; Jaime Jones, a 23 year-old driver, Alina Singh, a 24 year-old receptionist; and Kent Garbutt, a 25 year-old Laborer. All persons present have since been charged with keeping an unlicensed firearm, keeping unlicensed ammunition and possession of controlled drugs.

On that same street, Police conducted a search at the residence of Simon Bateman, 22 year-old construction worker. When officers arrived and announced their intention, they heard the noise of a toilet flushing in the bathroom area. As a result, the officers broke the pipe that connects to the septic tank, and they found cannabis. When they entered the home, they also found some more on the floor; the total amount retrieved from the pipe, and this amount on the floor, totaled to 24 grams. A search was conducted in two of the bedrooms led to the discovery of 128 grams of cannabis, and another 4.2 grams of the same controlled drug. Present at the time of the search were Simon and Sheree Bateman, and and a 17 year-old minor. They were all charged with possession of controlled drugs.

At around 6:25 a.m. on Sunday, GSU and San Ignacio Special Branch conducted a search on the residence of Orin Evans, a 28 year-old self-employed resident of Ochoa Street, San Ignacio. At home during that time, were Evans and his 28 year-old common-law wife, Valerie Gabourel. Nothing was found in the home, but when officers searched the yard, they found 3 small marijuana plants measuring between 7 to 10 inches. Both Evans and Gabourel were charged with the cultivation of cannabis.
