RIP Rosendo
posted (November 30, 2018)
Right now, the UDP and the Orange Walk community is mourning the death of Rosendo "Chendo" Urbina. He was a well-known businessman and UDP politician from that town, who rose to prominence when he challenged the PUP's John Briceño for the Orange Walk Central constituency. Informed persons told us that he had a long battle with cancer which he lost last night.

This morning, the press asked UDP Senator Godwin Hulse about Urbina, and he said that the man known as "Chendo" was one of those old-school politicians you don't see much of in today's political arena:

Hon. Godwin Hulse, Minister of Agriculture
"I heard it a couple of hours ago. We are very saddened. He was an excellent and outstanding man, especially from the Orange Walk District. Everybody knows him. He was a pillar of the society, so my condolence and that of the government to his family and his loved ones."

Reporter
"Did you interact with Mr. Urbina at any time during his life?"

Hon. Godwin Hulse, Minister of Agriculture
"I knew Chendo really well. We called some people old school and those were the people who had that kind of discipline and dignity and respect across political spectrum and everywhere. Sometimes we lose that and I come from that grouping and would love to see that we retained that, whatever it is and he was one of those persons. So again, our sympathies out to his family."

Urbina once served the country as Belize's Ambassador to Mexico.
