When the case against Ben Abou-Nehra was thrown out in July, in a flurry of
controversy, DPP Lutchman Sooknandan insisted that it was just a setback, and
the case would be brought back in the next session of the Supreme Court. And
it has been. Chayben Bou-Nahra was arrested and taken to the Supreme Court today,
re-charged for the manslaughter of Shawn Copious.
He appeared in Justice Adolph Lucas's courtroom. He pleaded not guilty
and his case was set for hearing on the 12th November. He was represented by
Ellis Arnold and Kareem Musa. Ben Bou-Nahra received bail of $10,000 and a surety
of the same amount.
But Bou-Nahra was only one of the high profile accused persons appearing for
the opening of the October session of the Supreme Court. Also appearing in the
Supreme Court today were the two men accused of the murder of Phillip and Kevin
Brannon.
Taedron Bennett and Joseph Kee appeared before John Gonzalez, pleaded not guilty
and were retuned to prison where they have been on remand since May of 2006.
They were also represented by Ellis Arnold. Their date for trial has been set
for the 12th November.
Also appearing in Justice Gonzalez's courtroom was Louie Gentle, more
commonly known as Louie Ganzie. He was undefended and a date will be set for
his trial after the court appoints him an attorney.
