One Charged In Relation To Menzies’ Murder, Shooter Being Sought
posted (November 23, 2020)
On Friday's news, we told you about the senseless murder of 57-year-old Sean Menzies, the well-known and well-loved Bowen and Bowen employee. He was shot and killed in front of his home on Lancaster Street in Belize City, just before midnight on Wednesday. Tonight, one of the men who police believe was directly involved in this crime, is at the Belize Central Prison.

He's 22-year-old Jeffrey Contreras, who told the authorities that he is a babysitter who lives on Banak Street in Belize City. He was arraigned before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford on the offense of abetment to commit murder. Because this is an indictable offense, no plea was taken, and he was remanded into custody, until his next court date, which is scheduled for January 25, 2021.

As we reported, Sean Menzies arrived home with his wife, and after briefly settling in for the night, he came back outside his yard to smoke a cigarette in front of his gate. Reports to 7News were that an acquaintance had a short conversation with him, and we understand this person might have been the target of a gunman on the prowl.

When the shooters rode past Menzies' home once again, he was the only one in the area. The assailants immediately opened fire and fatally injured him.

Court reports indicate that Contreras was charged with abetment to murder because he was reportedly caught on police surveillance cameras in the area of the crime scene. We understand that both he and the gunman were seen riding off on bicycles going contrary to the flow of traffic shortly after the Menzies was gunned down. The alleged gunman remains at large.
