"Yabra" Home Lost To Fire
posted (October 27, 2021)
Yesterday evening, "Yabra" residents were alerted to thick plumes of smoke coming from a house that was burning close to Yabra Bridge.

The property belongs to Stanley Reneau, aka "Jordan", who is a well known coach and referee.

Yesterday, sometime around 5 p.m., his un-occupied wooden home, located at the edge of the city's coastline in the "Yabra" neighborhood, mysteriously caught on fire and was completely destroyed.

Reneau spoke with 7News this morning, and he told us that he couldn't even respond to the blaze while it was happening, because he was on-duty in Belmopan as a coach for the National Under-20 football team:

Stanley Reneau - Homeowner
"I'm one of the national team coaches. I'm the goalkeeper coach for the National U-20 team. We are in training to go to Santo Domingo from the 5th to the 15th. So, when I get the call I was in Belmopan, and I got time off this morning to respond and to do other duties."

Reporter
"So, you couldn't even come out to see what happened."

Stanley Reneau
"No, I couldn't come out. I got like 50 calls. I wasn't living here. It was leased out to the Government of Belize for a year."

"The land is being used for a project by the Government of Belize, a pumping project."

Reporter
"So, what's the value of the home?"

Stanley Reneau
"It's a 4-bedroom Plycem house. It's valued $35,000. I can't speculate what happened."

As you heard, Reneau has leased his property to the Government of Belize. We understand that the contractors, who are working on the IDB-funded Climate Vulnerability Reduction Program, intend to make use of it to install the pumping station, which will allow for the extraction of water from the canal.
