This morning, our colleagues from CTV 3 News caught up with Garett Patten, the brother of the deceased, and he shared what information he had on Steve's whereabouts in the hours before he was found dead.
According to Garett Patten, his brother, who is a law-abiding citizen, was in the company of friends on Christmas-Eve, and the first few hours of Christmas Day. Here's that interview:

"It was Christmas morning about 7pm some friends that Steve was with came by and ask if Steve have gotten home and I said no, due to Christmas I do believe that he had stayed with a friend and he spent the Christmas there, so they told me that they heard Steven was murdered, so none of them was giving me information that I wanted to hear - facts whether it was true or not, so I told them to give me a break and to wait here for me. I got on my bicycle and went to the police station and as the police officer me, he saw the resemblance, are you Patten right. I said yes, we have your brother at the morgue and we will explain to you afterwards. That was it."

"Where was Steve before this happened? On Christmas eve I understand the last time he was seen."

"Steven was with a friend spending the Christmas all day and it got to the point where the information came out that he left from there about 2am in the morning, buy not to go far away, so that's the reason he didn't bother about the curfew, because there was no one out there at that point in time. He went to another address with some individuals and they continued their paranda and that was up to about 3:30am Christmas morning and then they left from there and everybody went their own way. So Steven, he had to be heading for home. Everybody here knows Steve. He wouldn't hurt a fly. As a matter of fact Steven didn't know the inside of the police station. You would think that something else would kill Steven, maybe his bad habit smoking too much cigarette or something like that and not a senseless murder like that."
Two persons were detained for the murder - one of them live in the area where the body was found.
That is the same location where Dwayne Cummings, the promising student-athlete from UB, was found dead back in February of 2019. That location is known as "garbage dump site."
