posted (December 16, 2022)
71-year-old Sylvia Flores passed away on December 6th from natural causes, but the achievements she made during her lifetime will be remembered forever. She was the first female mayor of Dangriga, the first female Speaker of the House, the first female Acting PM, and those are only some of what she accomplished during her political life.

And while she fought hard, today she was laid to rest during an official funeral. At the ceremony, the PM John Briceno gave the official remembrance of a woman who can only be described as a trailblazer.

John Briceno, Prime Minister
"We're here today to honor and to remember the life of a woman who believed, Sylvia Flores lived her life doing 2 important tasks; she loves and served God and she loved her family, including the people of this community and by extension this nation. She did these things because she believed in all her heart that her deeds would result in better days ahead. She truly believes that a bright future comes only when we persevere today. Sylvia Flores persevered knowing full well that every trial she blazed was not for her or about her. She believed her efforts would deliver a better life for the young people of Dangriga and for Belize. To Sylvia and her 5 grandchildren whom she loved dearly, I extend on behalf of our government our love and heartfelt condolences."

Flores leaves behind one daughter and five grandchildren.
