The Christmas weekend was mostly peaceful - but the gun violence resumed this morning around 1:45 when 30-year-old Lindon Mark Hinds was killed, shot up inside his own home by a gunman who pretending to be police.
Hinds and his common-law wife were asleep in their home on Pitter street - which has seen multiple homicides this year.
Cherisse Halsall headed there again this morning and has this story:
This is the house on Pitter street where Lindon Hinds, known as "Monsta" was brutally killed. The cops say that the gunman approached pretending to be a lawman, that's how he caught Hinds off guard.
ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Communications Officer
"Mr Hinds was at home when he heard shouting and knocking on his front door and a voice said police. He then opened the front door, where the assailant immediately fired several shots in his direction causing his fatal injury. He was transported to the KHMH where he was pronounced dead by a medical officer at 3:55 AM."
But why kill Hinds? The streets call him a dangerous figure, with the claim being that one of his past alleged misdeeds could have caught up with him. But at this stage, the police aren't confirming or denying anything.
ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Communications Officer
"One, we haven't established the true motive as yet. So, we wouldn't want to say at this early in the investigation what we believe. What we will do and we have done already is out measures into place to stop any retaliation from his group. As I said at this point, at this time we do not know the true identity of the assailant but we have everything in place to prevent any form of retaliation."
Cherisse Halsall:
"Sir, as far as the motive Hinds was one of the individuals charged with the murder of Kia Herbert who lived at just a stone's throw from his house. Is this street justice?"
ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Communications Officer
"As I said when we establish the motive then I will be at liberty to comment on that, until then we do not want to speculate."
Presently, police have a number of suspects detained:
ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Communications Officer
"We have some information on persons detained for questioning and as soon as the investigators believe they have enough information to release then I will be at liberty to release it."
Police expect to bring charges soon.
