Fitzroy Says If You Turn Someone In, Don’t Turn Up On The News
posted (December 28, 2022)
At the start of the month, we took you to Caye Caulker where we introduced you to Shalton Fuentes, the man who turned in American fugitive Aldrick Scott.

Scott has since been returned to the U.S. where, after the discovery of his ex-girlfriend Carri Allen's remains, his charges are expected to be upgraded.

But back in Belize, it seems Shalton Fuentes isn't safe. On Christmas night he told 7News that he was attacked in Belize City by a man he believes to be Aldrick Scott's cousin.

He has since asked for police protection, we communicated that request to ASP Fitzroy Yearwood yesterday and here's what he had to say about Fuentes's situation.

Cherisse Halsall:
"Shalton Fuentes the man who turned in the alleged kidnapper, Aldrick Scott, who was sent back to the U.S., Fuentes says he was attacked in Belize City on Saturday night, he claims that one of Scott's cousin's who I can only assume is a Belizean is the man that attacked him has there been a report as to such a matter?"

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Communications Officer
"None reaching my desk so far but I am certain he will make a report in the future about it. I am hoping that it will be done today so that we can dress it."

Cherisse Halsall:
"Is there any protection that Belizean police will be able to offer Mr. Fuentes?"

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Communications Officer
"Well, um based on the nature of his report we will know what will take place, um, I don't know who advised Mr. Fuentes to come forward to give a public interview. When you allege that you turned in a fugitive, I mean it was not advisable. It has already been done and then we will have to see what we can do as a department to help him."

Scott remains in jail on a 10 million dollar bond. His public defenders are now asking a judge to unseal the search warrants and arrest affidavits in his case.
