LIU Keeps It Real About Members Of The Program Who Get Killed
posted (December 30, 2022)
And Augustine was a part of the Leadership Intervention Unit, so his disappearance has significantly impacted those he worked with. However, the chairman, William Dawson, explained that this is just part of the job - that no matter how strong of a bond they may build with these young men, the reality is that a lot of them end up dead. However, he's still hoping that Augustine is found alive.

William Dawson, Chairman, LIU
"Honestly, I will let you understand the dynamics of this type of work. Before doing this type of work, I used to work in the prison. With many of the youth and when they have been released, it hurts you to know that they have been killed. You create a level of attachment and you build rapport with these guys and the human part of you really feels it especially for their family because everybody have loved ones no matter how bad a person is they have somebody who loves them and so when these types of situations occur it does have an emotional effect on us but it's a part of the job. People die everyday and that's just the nature of the beast but we'd hope that they would find Akeem alive and well."
