A 76-year-old Belizean American is in the morgue tonight after a freak elevator accident that occurred around 1 this afternoon in San Pedro. Joy Quale, who lives in the Serenity Shores community of San Pedro Town, was using the elevator when the chain reportedly snapped, causing it to fall from the fourth to the first floor at a high speed. Quale was badly injured and rushed to the Ambergris Hopes Clinic and then transferred to the Belize Specialist Clinic, where she succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment. Police are investigating to see if there was any criminal negligence.
