Finally, Ombudsman's Office Filled
posted (February 10, 2023)
And in other news, today, the new Ombudsman was finally sworn in. Major Gilbert Swaso's appointment was officially announced during a Senate Meeting held on December 14th, but there was a delay in actually getting him into office. At the start of January, we asked the PM why, to which he answered that he was just too busy, and that the issue had gone on the back burner. Later, he explained that he learned the process had to go through the House of Representatives first, and that's exactly what happened last week Friday.

Swaso succeeds Lionel Arzu, who held the post from 2013 to 2021. And since Swaso's appointment wasn't effective until the start of this year, that means the ombudsman's office has been empty for about two years.

Swaso's appointment will last for a period of three years.
