Belizean Woman Claims She’s Being Held Hostage By Relatives In Lebanon
posted (February 23, 2023)
Tonight, a Belizean woman is pleading for help, claiming she's been kidnapped by the family of her deceased husband - a Lebanese Belizean.

Now, Veronica Hamze says that she and her three young daughters are trapped, unable to leave the confines of a small bedroom in the Hamze home in Lebanon, and she claims suffering both economic and physical mistreatment at the hands of her alleged in-laws turned captors.

But she still has access to the internet and here is the plea she made via social media 5 days ago:

Veronica Hamze, Kidnapped By Relatives
"I am making this video today the 18th of February, 2023 at the the moment I have been kidnapped I'm trapped by the family of my dead husband here in Lebanon. I find myself in the north of Lebanon in Miriata. In a place that is called Miriata Tripoli in Lebanon. They are the ones that have kidnapped me. They've taken my daughters from me in the same house. They want to take my daughters from me because of my religion. My daughters, my three daughters are Belizean their father died in Belize City and the reason I'm making this video is that if anything happens to me. If anything happens to me, if I disappear, If I should disappear and no one knows anything about me I call out the only person responsible The police already have all their information and they are investigating but I am very afraid of this family....and I've suffered mistreatment from them and from the sisters, even from their father. I'm very afraid."

And while she says police are investigating her case, the Commissioner of Police Chester Williams here in Belize has said Veronica's matter isn't one for the police but a matter for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

We did reach out to Foreign Affairs and while we were unable to get comment from the Minister, reports suggest that there is some communication from Foreign Affairs with the Lebanese government on Veronica Hamze's behalf.

We will keep following this story.
