The commissioner also commented on the weekend murder in Gracie Rock. That's where mayhem erupted on Sunday when a group was swimming in the river near the Hammock Bridge when 12 persons - men and minors - descended on them. They were held up, but before the robbers left, shots were fired, and one man was killed while another was injured.
Today, the alleged gunman, 35 year old Tyrone Young pulled a t-shirt over his head when he was arraigned for the murder. At around 11:00, Young in the presence of his attorney, Ronnell Gonzalez appeared before Senior Magistrate, Baja Shoman where he was read three indictable offenses: one count of murder for the shooting death of 26-year-old, Denver Denmark Montero, and one count of attempted murder and use of deadly means of harm upon Ryan Kerr. He was remanded until June 5th.
Young's attorney pointed out his injuries to the Magistrate which he allege occur during his detention at the hands of the police.
Today, the Commissioner of police said they are still looking for the son of accused to charge him as well:
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"We're still looking for another Young, Tyrone Young's son, and one Aaron Smith who will also be charged in respect to the murder and the incident at Gracie Rock. Police also conducted intense search of the area where the incident occurred and that led to the recovery of one 9mm pistol and several expended shells, the weapon we believe was the weapon of choice used in the commission of the crime and so again good police work in terms of the police work done by CIB to put the pieces together and quick response from the Hattieville police who did the initial interception led to the arrest and we see how the matter goes from there."
"There were some minors involved or who were in the van but that does not mean they were involved in the crime itself. Yes, the investigation had to be done in a very meticulous manner to ensure that we were able to ascertain what actually transpired and who were the parties whom were involved in perpetuating these crimes and the investigation did yield that result and hence the reason all in the vehicle were not charged."
Courtney Menzies:
"But I understand as well that some of the detainees aren't cooperating with police?"
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"I'm not going to answer that comment at this time that will be a matter for the court to decide when the time comes."
As you heard, credible reports say the detained persons - including 5 minors - are not cooperating with police.
