And turning back now to our interview with Minister Kevin Bernard, the tail end of it saw Cherisse Halsall ask about how G.O.B. is dealing with its nurse shortage.
The Minister confirmed that scholarships are available for those wishing to enter the profession but he says candidates will have to earn them based on merit.

"The ministry of education normally would put out the request, people apply and they are vetted by the chief nurse, Nurse Bell and then a committee looks at them and then they are the ones that would recommend. I think you have to meet certain criteria within your grade scheme and so forth. It's not a political issue. People are selected based on their education and the level of understanding that they have within the nursing criteria."
