Chester Meets And Greets In Mesop
posted (May 31, 2023)
Today the ComPol was in the Mesopotamia constituency going from businesses to homes to alleyways to speak with the residents and store owners. It's not exactly an area that has seen many recent flare ups of gang activity, which made us question the ComPol's motives. But he says the meet and greet sessions are a part of their routine to strengthen their relationship with the community.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"We're going our usual weekly meet and greets and in Belize City, what I try to do is to from time to time pick an area and I would go and join the officers in conducting meet and greet and today we decided to do it in the Mesopotamia division and so we're here. Along with me, I have the officer in charge of Eastern Division, Mr Romero, and we're also introducing Mr Patt who is the new officer commanding precinct 1 to the area so the people can know who he is and establish that connection with him so that when something happens the people would know who to call in the event of those circumstances."

"We certainly have done a lot working with the public and as you know we have installed a police permanent presence in this area and that certainly is bearing fruits for us. We also have police presence on the other street, on Glenn Street, and then what we also did is that we installed a number of surveillance cameras in the area, so we have proper surveillance camera coverage of this entire area and those efforts that we have put in place are reaping good benefits for us at this time."

"The feedback has been good, I must say on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the highest, people rate the police performance in this area, between 10 and 8 which I believe is quite acceptable. There are a few things that they are asking for us to do better and that's the reason we have Mr Patt and Mr Romero to make sure that those concerns and those issues that these people have are looked into and I will make sure that there's follow up to ensure that there is continuation in terms of what we're doing and what the public want to see us doing to make them feel much safer."
