Murder Trial Witness Missing, Feared Dead
posted (June 20, 2023)
Tonight, a witness in a murder trial is missing and presumed dead, and his family fears the worst. This after 30-year-old Iran Jones left his Hattieville home last Tuesday.

According to his family, Jones was reportedly threatened while attending court right in front of the prosecutor.

And this afternoon police told the family that they had surveillance footage of Jones getting into a black SUV. We caught up with them on John Smith Road where they were in the middle of a desperate search for what they believed to be the remains of their brother and son.

"He went missing last week Tuesday around 7:00 from Hattieville. He was in a trial that was going on between Mr. Shawn Menzies in 2018, they claim to say that Iran was a witness. We didn't know anything until he went missing because of his common-law said that she haven't seen him for the past two days. Well, she went to the police and everything and they came and dealt with what they had to deal with and they gave me a call and said that my brother was missing and if my sister-in-law could stay with me. Which, that wasn't a problem well after those two days that went by Tuesdays and Wednesdays we went the Wednesday to the queen street police station to make a report of a missing person. We didn't see no um, missing person alert none at all and no media nothing. We had to do it ourselves with the help of my second mother Donna Cassasola, well it came to this and now just now we were searching on the John Smith road here, we were way at the end of the bridge until the two young ladies they stood on the side there and the lots of jankro that were flying around and they were smelling the stench of a body because they know how a body smell cause they are from bush. Well, we came behind here we were searching we haven't come up with anything as yet. He was under witness protection."

"Is there such a thing in Belize?"

Margery Gonzalez, Iran Jones's Sister
"To be honest I don't know what is happening I don't know what is really going on, how could you let a person, a witness that said that he witnessed a murder happen under your protection, how could you let this happen, now I get the understanding that there is a video that with on the video picked up what happened with my brother getting into a vehicle, a black SUV or something like that. So, when we finish from here and we don't know what will be the outcome if we will find anything or what but we are searching here we are going and we will check out the video and see if maybe that would help us along the way."

If you have any information pertaining to Iran Jones's disappearance you are asked to contact the nearest police station or to contact his sister at 628-8704.
