23-year-old Luis Miguelito Beaton, a father of one, newly employed cook at Chon Sann Palace and an aspiring musician was ruthlessly gunned down on Saturday night when 6 shots were heard at the corner of Flamboyant Street and Croton Lane.
This afternoon police told the press he'd been on his way home to his family.
ACP Hilberto Romero, OC, Eastern Division
"Information revealed that Beaton was coming home from work when he was attacked by a male person with a firearm causing his fatal injuries. He was alone at the time and it appears yes, he was the target."
Beaton's wife wouldn't speak today but we found his only living parent, David Beaton all the way in Double Head Cabbage where he runs this little shop.
He told us that while he's still living thorough the shock of his son's murder he still has to get on with it.
David Beaton, Father Of the Deceased
"I heard it the Saturday night. Just like it would affect any other parent, it's a shock, but we must live with it. 6 times, so I don't think they can make a mistake."
"My, Louis's twin brother's wife called me and informed me and then my daughter called me and informed me too, but apart from that nobody else called me to inform me that my son had been killed."
"I didn't get any police contact, no police no contact me, no call me, no policeman has told me anything."
But Beaton says his loss weighs heavy on him because while he didn't raise Luis himself they'd been growing closer in recent years.
David Beaton, Father Of the Deceased
"Well, we were close because we stayed connected with each other, he stay call me, he came up here and he spent some time with me and my wife and the family. He and his girlfriend and his baby, even before they came spent time with me, and he called me often."
"Well, I went down there to see if I could find some way how I could bury my son but I can't do anything until the policeman releases the body."
"Really and truthfully I have never gone through this situation before so it's something new to me and I don't think I have that kind of money but where there is a will there is a way, so I will find a way."
And the 23-year-old's death has affected more than just his own family, his boss of just three days Lee Mark Chang shared a post over the weekend to say that Beaton had already made an excellent impression.
But Beaton counted himself a creative, rapper and singer with big dreams of success but a firm responsibility to the little family he'd created.
David Bainton, Father Of the Deceased
"All I know he was a loving person, he was very, right now the baby boy he has. He loves him very much and he tried his best for his children and most of all he was trying to get out of this country because he wanted to go to the states, he wanted to be a musician so he wanted to cut his music in the states, that is what he wanted to do, that was his dream to get out there and to cut music because he loved music, you see but that dream there got cut short."
Cherisse Halsall:
"Your son was a breadwinner, what happens now?"
David Bainton, Father Of the Deceased
"Hmm, well what will happen now I as the grandfather can assist when I can assist or the young lady just has to move on, life goes on."
