And now to much more serious political business - and that is the redistricting exercise. Government has until mid-July to present the final report. That's only two weeks away and the reality is that the Belize District with its 13 seats will likely be chopped down to 11 seats.
That means two constituencies are likely to go - and right now proposals that are being floated around are for it to be Queen Square and Port Loyola.
And that's why the PUP's Gilroy Usher is coming out and crying foul tonight. He's issued an unusual release basically saying that Fort George should be considered for removal, before Port Loyola. The release says "Gilroy Usher Area Representative for Port Loyola and the PUP Port Loyola Committee Demand Fairness with Redistricting."
It goes unto say "If 2 of the 13 divisions in the Belize District has to be eliminated as a result of insufficient voters in the Area, Port Loyola should not be one of them, because with 4640 voters Port Loyola has more than the minimum of 4,600 voters for a division, and Port Loyola is the second largest division in Belize City
In fairness the elimination two divisions in the Belize District should begin with the smallest of the eight smallest divisions in the area specifically Fort George, Mesopotamia, Queen Square, Albert, Collet, Freetown, Pickstock, and Caribbean Shores which all have way below the minimum of 4,600 voters each."
