You may remember the name Adamir Choc - she's the 19 year old Belmopan teenager who was murdered in September of 2019 - one of a number of girls whose life was cut short at the hands of a killer who still remains free.
Her alleged killer Nelson Espinoza was charged for murder a few weeks after the discovery of her body off a feeder road. But, four years later, he was quietly released - and tonight, her murder - though outrageous at the time - now stands as just another unsolved mystery.
Espinoza's attorney Hurl Hamilton confirmed via text message today that his client was released recently after the DPP filed a nolle pros. And while he wasn't involved int he case, we consulted with Attorney Arthur Saldivar today about the meaning of this nolle pros and what slender hopes the family can have of someday seeing justice:
Arthur Saldivar, Attorney
"Well normally when the prosecution enters a Nol prosequi in any matter it is because the witnesses that they may have had originally who gave statements implicating the accused, may not be available or they may have problems locating them; but a Nol Prosequi does not end a matter, in the true essence of the word it can always be brought back because it was not heard in the merits, so if in some future date should the witnesses be located or there is evidence arriving that can be brought to court to further the prosecution, that accused person can be brought back. And let's keep our fingers crossed that that may happen, because there is no worse pain in the hearts of men or women than having to suffer a loss without getting closure."
We did try to speak to the Choc family - but they have reportedly moved to another part of the country.
