And while that fine or settlement is expected to be over a million dollars, how about a 10 million dollar lawsuit that the Ashcroft Alliance has taken out against former UDP Minister Erwin Contreras?
One month ago Waterloo Investment Holdings - which wants to build a cruise terminal at the Port of Belize - served Contreras with notice of a lawsuit - and today a commencement of the claim was filed in court.
In that document, Waterloo's CEO Stewart Howard accused Contreras of misfeasance for signing the Portico Definitive Agreement and asks the court to award Waterloo General damages, Special Damages for developmental costs in the sum of 10 million dollars.
The claim alleges that Contreras, quote, "knowingly, willfully and recklessly abused his power as a Minister by signing the Definitive Agreement knowing he had no power to do so and knowing of the probable risk of loss and harm to the Claimants and other potential cruise ship industry developers." Waterloo claims it suffered loss, harm and damage as a result. And while the dollar value of the lawsuit is sensational - it is likely to be months before a hearing date for this civil suit is granted.
