Belize Secures Its First Win In Codicader U15
posted (August 3, 2023)

For the past few weeks we've been reporting on the advances in regional sports for our youth sporting teams.

But, Belize took a beating yesterday, on day 1 of the CODICADER U-15 girls and boys basketball.

After our Male team lost to Panama with a score of 40-90. Our female team also followed suit and lost again to Panama with a score of 16-47. The girls still haven't been able to recover from their previous loss, after today's game against Nicaragua, losing 23-48.

And although Belize has not been able to secure a win since the start of the tournament, the male basketball team told us today that they are optimistic that they will be able to redeem themselves with their second game this evening against Nicaragua.

Marvin Ottley, National Sports Council Deputy Director
"Well day two this morning, Panama played Honduras Male and Female, Panama won both games in male and female. So at this point in time Panama has won two games in the competition in both male and female. Right now Belize is playing Nicaragua, Nicaragua just came in this morning and so they played their first game today. As you can see the game is rather close between both teams. And then immediately after Belize male play Nicaragua male. We didn't do so well yesterday but to be honest with you panama is really really up there at this age group and so we lost both games we are looking forward to see if we could bounce back today and hopefully win our game today "

Reporter:
"I know your first game was yesterday against Panama, how did that go for you guys?"

Gary Nicholas, Point Guard
"For me and the team it was a nervous game , everyone was nervous and stuff like not everyone is playing at their best potential and stuff."

Levaughn Reneau, Power Forward
"We lose yesterday but today if we try and thing we can come back stronger . we cant let it bother us and try our best today."

Gary Nicholas, Point Guard
"This game today is against Nicaragua and we will try less turnovers better passes, more scoring and try to bring more energy to the game."

Levaughn Reneau, Power Forward
"Today when we came in we are not nervous again and that already loose off from last game we will just come in do our best and hopefully get the win."

And so the boys prevailed, with a score of 51-41 against Nicaragua, securing Belize's first win of the CODICADER games which will end on August 6th.
