As we've been reporting, the contested BNTU presidential tenure of Ruth Shoman continues to be dogged by accusations from her detractors that she is ineligible to hold the post because she's not an "in-service" or retired teacher.
Reports from the union say that she has told the union that she is employed by the US State Department.
Well, in the clearest statement yet, we can tonight quote an official from the US Embassy in Belmopan as saying, quote, "we can confirm that Ruth Shoman was never a State Department employee." End quote.
As we told you, Shoman was a volunteer trainer under a US-run Open Program for English instruction.
